Weight Loss Supplement Reviews – How They Can Help You

As a consumer, you probably realize how helpful product reviews are. You wouldn’t want to be duped especially in these days of economic turmoil when almost everyone is going through some form of financial struggle.

As a dieter, you need to be particularly cautious when choosing a weight loss product because not only should you spend wisely,

but more importantly, you must always safeguard your health. The weight loss industry, after all, is known for being relentlessly profit-oriented regardless of whether the products that come out of it is beneficial to people or not.

Advancements in science and weight loss technology have resulted in the creation of numerous weight loss supplements, programs or systems, which all claim to be the best in the industry. Although there are some that actually deliver what they promise, many rely on advertising hype. Half-truths and outright lies are a major part of the business strategies of some unscrupulous manufacturers. For this reason, weight loss supplement reviews are extremely valuable.

The objective of weight loss supplement reviews is to distinguish the quality products from inferior and questionable ones. It does this by specifically pointing out the lies and the truths that manufacturers say about their products. The information contained in a weight loss supplement review is meant to protect the consumers from being victimized by greedy manufacturers.

Which weight loss supplement should it be?

A good way to get started in choosing the right weight loss supplement is by finding out what’s currently popular. While it does not mean that it’s the best, it at least gives you an idea of what works for others.

It is important that you secure a list of the Food and Drug Administration’s list of harmful ingredients and use it when evaluating the effectiveness and safety of weight loss supplements. Always take a look at the list of ingredients included in product’s formula either on the label or on the product website. Aside from finding out if a supplement contains ineffective or harmful ingredients, you can also find out if it has ingredients which you may be allergic to.

Are prescription weight loss supplements for you?

Prescription drugs are basically for very obese people or for those who have specific needs that cannot be met by over-the-counter weight loss supplements. These drugs have been tested and approved by the Food and Drug Administration and are more potent than over-the-counter products. Majority of the people who have taken prescription weight loss drugs report that they have lost as much as much as 10% of their weight. People with healthy body mass indexes may also take these weight loss drugs as long as they are cleared by their doctors to take them.

No prescription needed

Over-the-counter weight loss supplements can actually be more dangerous than prescription drugs as their use is not regulated. There are people who might misuse them and end up being sick. Using a variety of such supplements alongside each other in an attempt to speed up the weight loss process for instance, may overwork the system. When this happens, the body becomes weaker and is unable to defend itself against threats that may destroy it.

Unproven claims

Just because a supplement is labelled "herbal" or "natural" means it’s healthy and safe. There are many herbal ingredients that cause severe side-effects. Ephedra for one, an extract taken from the Chinese herb Ma Huang, is considered a highly dangerous substance. It has been linked to heart attacks and strokes, just to name a few. To protect yourself, always read the ingredients of any formula that you plan to take. If a product doesn’t have an ingredient list, don’t even consider it.

Protection

Before you buy any weight loss supplement, do some research. Check if any product reviews have been done on it. These articles will give you a pretty good idea about what others think about the product as well as what it contains and how it’s supposed to work. Be wary of products that describe themselves with words such as "miraculous", "secret", "exotic", "breakthrough" and "guaranteed".

If you have any experience, good or bad, to share with others about any weight loss supplement you have tried, why not write a weight loss supplement review? Evaluate the product and explain to others why it does or doesn’t work. The information you have will help them make wise choices and at the same time keep them protected from unscrupulous manufacturers who take advantage of clueless and unsuspecting dieters.

Obesity and Weight Gain: The Story Behind the Superfoods

Superfoods is a coined word that has recently been added to our language.  This refers to certain foods that provide numerous benefits to our health such as the promotion of healthy cholesterol levels and antioxidant support for the body.  These foods are packed with vitamins, minerals, nutrients, essential fatty acids, fiber and other healthful substances.  With all these great things  superfoods have to offer, why is it that they have only been noticed this past decade?

It can be attributed indirectly to the ever-increasing cases of obesity-related diseases.  Statistics from the American Obesity Association (AOA) show that approximately 127 million adult Americans are overweight, 60 million are obese, and 9 million are severely obese. Furthermore, according to the AOA an obese person has an increased risk of illness for about 30 serious medical conditions. This alarming news has made many Americans aware of the need to make lifestyle changes such as how they live, eat and take care of their bodies.  The search for the best foods to include in the diet was borne out of this downward trend in the health condition of America as a whole.

The following is a list of some of the most nutritious of the superfoods and the benefits they offer:

Berries: Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, and cranberries  have a high fiber content plus nutrients, vitamins, and hundreds of other healthful compounds.  They have powerful antioxidant properties that boost the immune system thereby helping the body be well protected from disease making them an essential part of a healthy diet.

Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits are known for being excellent sources of vitamin C, however they have so much more to offer.  They contain flavonoids which provide antioxidant support as well as fiber, folic acid and potassium.  The more popular citrus fruits include oranges, lemons and limes.

Green leafy vegetables: All of us know this one.  We have always been taught as kids that green leafy vegetables are highly nutritious but we were never told that aside from vitamins green leafy also contain calcium, fiber, potassium and carotenoids which are the pigments found in plants that are rich in antioxidants.  Some examples include spinach, kale, endive, romaine, and broccoli.

Legumes: These vegetables are a great source of fiber and protein and examples of which include lentils, beans and peas.  Legumes promote healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels.  These vegetables may be used in salads,  soups, salads, spreads or as a side dish.

Soy: Soy is an excellent source of protein and is rich in isoflavones which are potent antioxidants that may help in lowering the risk of heart disease by encouraging healthy cholesterol levels in the body.  Soy comes in many forms such as soy milk, miso (soybean paste), tempeh (soybean cake), tofu or plain edamame (soy beans).

Tea: Valued for thousands of years as a medicinal beverage, tea contains flavonoids which support the body’s immune system and promote overall good health.

Tomato: This fruit, which many think of as a vegetable, is packed with nutrients.  It is rich in lycopene, a plant pigment that neutralizes free radicals which can cause serious damage to healthy cells in the body.  Free radicals have been linked to age-related illnesses, cancer and heart disease.

Walnut: Nuts and seeds such as hazelnuts, cashews, almonds, brazil nuts,  pumpkin and sunflower seeds contain heart-healthy fatty acids which have been shown to promote healthy cholesterol levels.  However, walnuts are especially loaded with plant-based Omega-3 fatty acids.  These Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) aid in healthy digestion and support cardiovascular and immune health.

The Latest Scientific Update on Weight Loss

Weight loss products are backed up by various theories to explain why they are formulated as such.  Some make sense while others border on the absurd.  Scientist have started to take a look at some of these.

One of the newer areas of weight gain research focuses on the theory that the type of bacteria that is predominant in the gut accounts for one’s ability to lose weight.

The moment you are born, trillions of microorganisms invade your gut.  By the time you reach the age of two, these microorganisms are almost complete and by then are performing various functions in bodily processes such as digestion and vitamin production.  There are some who believe that these microscopic organisms play a significant role in weight loss.

There are two different types of bacteria that can be found in your digestive system—bacteroidetes and firmicutes.  These organisms perform several functions and one of these is the extraction of calories from the food you eat.  Scientists are trying to find the reason why some people have a stronger tendency to gain weight than others and one possibility they are trying to explore has to do with the type of bacteria that is predominant in the digestive system.

Studies were done recently on mice and humans.  The results from these studies showed that those with more fimicutes in their digestive tracts  extracted significantly more calories from the same amount of food than those with more bacteroidetes. What this means is that if two different people with more or less the same weight ate the same amount of a certain food, the one with more firmicutes in his or her gut would consume more calories.

In one study, twelve obese people followed a fixed predetermined diet for twelve months and their individual progress was tracked by researchers throughout this period.  Before they started on the diet, their gut bacteria levels primarily consisted of firmicutes.  As they lost more weight however, it was noticed that changes in bacterial levels also took place, with bacteroids increasing in concentration just like those of leaner people.  This study and others like it are leading researchers to look into other theories about weight loss and dieting which deviate from the conventional.

These studies may be very new but they give renewed hope to many who continuously struggle with obesity and being overweight.  If indeed weight loss can be induced by regulating  the balance of bacteria in the intestines, the entire concept of dieting would be radically transformed the weight loss and fitness industries would be turned upside down.  In the meantime however, as further research is being done, the best thing to do is stick to the time tested and proven weight loss approach of a healthy diet and regular exercise.

How Weight Loss Products Affect Dieters Negatively

There are times when our busy and hectic work schedules keep us from doing a lot of things, even when we consider these things among our top priorities. One of these is rememberi9ng to ingest supplements and medicines on time.

Indeed, taking medications are often easy to forget. So the question now is, if remembering to take medications is rather difficult, how much more difficult could it be to adhere to the regular intake of weight loss supplements in order to keep our weight down? This is the question asked by many dieters. Their queries were used to be ignored, but now, these queries are already being addressed through the use of a different form of a weight loss aid.

Once we try to look closely at the situation, we may say that there are many weight loss aids that can be used – all of these were said to function optimally in giving out the maximum weight loss results that the dieters and weight watchers alike are after. The traditional weight loss aid is through the use of diet capsules and teas. Accordingly, these are the age-old methods that were traced back to our ancestors when they need to ingest an herbal additive to relieve them from sickness or to alleviate the symptoms of rapid weight gain and obesity. But as far as our experience and observation with weight loss supplements go, we don’t quite believe that weight loss products are the best solution to vie for when it comes to weight loss pursuits.

For one, weight loss supplements are tricky. Often, these weight loss formulas do not have effective formulas; thus all that it can do is to provide dieters with nuisance because of its lack of effectiveness. Meanwhile, the other problem is the reverse: sometimes, weight loss products are effective but its formulation is not at all safe to use. In fact, it may even cause health hazards to those individuals who patronize it.

The above-mentioned reason to do away with weight loss products is not complete without reiterating its effect on the metabolic processes in the body. This might not be a well-known piece of information, but actually, weight loss products have an effect on the metabolism because it slows down the metabolic processes of the body. The weight loss supplements that have these effects are those that have caffeine and caffeine derivatives in their formulation. Meanwhile, kidney damage is also a distinct possibility for those people who continue using weight loss products; particularly, those weight loss products that make use of diuretic weight loss ingredients because it strains the kidney to a huge extent.

Dieters planning to lose weight should really think twice before using weight loss product to augment weight loss. Or else, the consequences just might be too difficult for them.

Another Reason to Stay Away from Sugar

There are certain food types that we’ve been raised to avoid.  Some of these food types are categorized as those that have high sugar content.  For what t is worth, we have always been told that foods with too much sugar content can cause tooth decay when we were still young.  Meanwhile, when we were growing up into adult men and women,

sugary foods were those that our elders have warned us about, particularly because it can cause weight gain.  In the adult stage, we are told to stay away from these food types because it can increase our blood glucose levels to the extent that we would already be having insulin problems.  Thus, the start of the chronic disease we call diabetes.

Diabetes Mellitus, more popularly called diabetes, is a chronic disorder that involves the abnormal high glucose levels.  Diabetes is diagnosed as either type I or type II.  The first type deals with juvenile type of diabetes; this type is that condition wherein the diabetic individuals supposed to have artificial insulin injected to his or her system so as to control the blood sugar levels in the system.  Meanwhile, the other type of diabetes is the one that is easier to manage.  In this type of diabetes, the disorder can be managed through diet and exercise, plus the aid of some medicines that are intended to lower blood sugar levels.  This type of diabetes, also called as the adult-onset type of diabetes, is the condition wherein the pancreas of the diabetic individual is still able to secrete insulin, but it is not sufficient to lower blood sugar levels to the normal range.  Meanwhile, the juvenile type of diabetes is they type of diabetes that needs insulin injection because the pancreas of the diabetic individual is no longer equipped to produce insulin to lower blood sugar levels.

It’s already a given fact that sugary foods can lead to many health complications and as such, we must do our best to avoid it.  But there’s another reason why should really forego of our sweet cravings.  Accordingly, the over consumption of sugary foods leads to changes in brain receptors, according to new animal research. The results have implications for understanding bulimia and other binge eating disorders.

Researchers report that either continuous eating or binge eating a high sugar diet alters opioid receptor levels in an area of the brain that controls food intake. Opioids exist naturally in the brain and have been linked to feelings of pleasure and euphoria.

The new findings also suggest that over consumption of these foods maintains binge eating by enhancing opioids in the brain, and that increased opioids could be a factor involved in binge eating disorders.

Dietary Oil to Ward off Obesity and Diabetes

Obesity is a growing epidemic that most people are getting involved in, particularly because they are not making such great efforts to shape up and continue trekking the right path towards a healthy way of life. In fact, some health experts and nutritionists were quite surprised to note that the number of those individuals who are diagnosed as obese has already escalated as well.

In an effort to fight off weight gain and obesity, the thing that most people try to do is to use weight loss products. Weight loss products are probably one of the quickest ways to see weight loss results, particularly because some of the formulations of these products are filled with potent and efficient weight loss ingredients. But then again, there are also some hazards that can be experienced by patronizing these products, especially if these products aren’t thoroughly researched on before ingestion. Indeed, there are weight loss products that ineffective because they carry mediocre formulations; meanwhile, there are also weight loss supplements that are quick and effective in maximizing weight loss, but have effects that can ultimately destroy the dieters’ sense of health and well-being.

As an alternative against weight loss supplements, another way that is said to keep off those unwanted body fat is through the use of some dietary oils. Accordingly, there was one study comparing how two common dietary oil supplements affect body composition. In other words, this suggests that both oils can lower body fat in obese postmenopausal women with Type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that is directly affecting the insulin levels and uncontrolled glucose levels of certain individuals who are afflicted with it. When blood glucose in not controlled, several health consequences are likely to impact a diabetic’s life; among these are problems with the heart, eyes, kidneys, and veins. Type 2 diabetes is hard to manage and it cannot be healed; the best thing that a person who is diagnosed with diabetes can do is to live with this disorder by making lifestyle changes.

Based on the results of the study, it was seen that safflower oil reduced fat in the trunk area, lowered blood sugar and increased muscle tissue in the participants. Meanwhile, another type of oil, the conjugated linoleic acid, was able to reduce total body fat while lowering body mass index (BMI), a common health measure of weight relative to height.

There are many people who are fretting and distressing over weight-related dilemmas and chronic diseases. For those people, it is best to make changes in their lifestyle while trying out what the two oils can do to their system so that they would experience a fuller and a better life without worrying much about health hazards and complications that are brought by obesity and diabetes.

Important Tips before Starting Exercise Routines

There are certain things that we take for granted; certain things that we inevitably act upon, without as much as a flyspeck of thought on whether it would be good for us or not.  More often than not, we simply act on our instinct; and these instinct spell how we would take up arms and work for the purpose we want to aspire for.

When it comes to weight loss, there are also some practices that we blindly go for without really looking into the situation itself.  An example of this practice is the act that we put into action just because we think it would help boosting our weight loss.

For the longest time, we have been taught that eating less would amount to more fat and weight loss.  This is especially true since we all know that lessening our food and caloric intake is also parallel to boosting weight loss.  But then again, some things should not be taken generally and should not be followed thoroughly.  This is true especially where weight loss pursuits are concerned.  When we want to lose weight, we immediately think that combining diet plans and exercise is the best way to go.  Although these two can indeed bring about successful weight loss, it might still cause a problem when a dieter does not eat too much while resorting to a thorough and strenuous exercise routine.  What would happen at this point is that the dieter would be deprived of the much needed energy for exercise.  And this is not good, to say the least.

Accordingly, there are two common mistakes that people commit when they are exercising.  The first one is that dieters who take up great efforts to exercise eat too little food so that they can lose weight more.  This is not an ideal option in the sense that not eating much to supply the body with energy can make obsolete the energy that is required for exercise.  In the long run, resorting to this practice may be effective in boosting weight loss, but on the other hand, it might affect the health to a great extent.

The other mistake is that some dieters eat too much, thinking that they need the energy to help them last throughout the whole exercise routine.  This is wrong also because it would make the body feel too heavy and lazy, thus the exercise regimen the dieter is preparing for just might go down the drain.  Accordingly, the right quantity of food to consume before exercise is a fist-sized amount of food an hour before exercise.

At that same time, you should have about 20 ounces of liquid. It takes about 60 minutes for that much liquid to leave the stomach and make its way into the muscle. If you have liquid ahead of time, you’ll be better hydrated when you start to be physically active.
